Friday, July 8th Resting Pulse: 52 bpm Weight: 169 lbs. Course: Pit Bull Run [House Mix] Distance: 6 Miles Time: 55:43 Other Exercises: None Weather: Rain, 62° Comments: I ran an easy six miles today. When a flitting Spotted Towhee distracted me, I stepped in a big pile of horseshit. Pleasant. Later, while driving home from dinner, I noticed something in the light of the streetlamp—an owl flying across the street. It landed on a fence post in plain view. Angie stopped and let me study the bird for several minutes. She then suggested we rush home so I could get my camera and try for a picture. I agreed. Returning with the camera, I was mildly surprised that the owl was still there. It had just caught something and was sitting in the grass by the edge of the road. The angle was bad and I couldn't maneuver my camera lens around the passenger side mirror to snap a shot. Spooked by the headlights, the owl flew off into the woods with something small and furry dangling from its talons. I tried to take a photo, but I couldn't draw a bead on the moving bird. Close, but no cigar. After some long study with my field guides, I decided I had seen a Barred Owl. WARR: T-minus 71 Days |
