Tuesday, April 11th Resting Pulse: Not Recorded Weight: Not Recorded Course: None Distance: Zero Time: N/A Other Exercises: None Weather: N/A Comments: I'm still not running, but I have my reasons. I almost never post memes, but I saw this one in Russkiy Penguin's journal and decided I really liked it. Here goes: 1. Type in your birthday (minus the year) in the search bar at http://wikipedia.org/ 2. List three interesting facts, two births, and one death that happened on your birthday. Events: 1938 - Orson Welles broadcasts his radio play of H. G. Wells's The War of the Worlds, causing a nationwide panic. 1961 - Nuclear testing: The Soviet Union detonates the hydrogen bomb Tsar Bomba over Novaya Zemlya; at 58 megatons of yield, it is still the largest nuclear device ever detonated. Nikita Kruschev announces that the scientists had planned to make it 100 megatons, but had reduced the yield so as to avoid breaking all the windows in Moscow. 1974 - "The Rumble in the Jungle": Muhammad Ali knocks out George Foreman in Kinshasa, Zaire to regain the World Heavyweight Boxing championship. Births: 1893 - Charles Atlas, Italian-born bodybuilder (d. 1972) 1945 - Henry Winkler, American actor Deaths: 2002 - Jam Master Jay, American rapper and musician (Run DMC) (murdered) (b. 1965) Monday, April 10th Resting Pulse: Not Recorded Weight: Not Recorded Course: None Distance: Zero Time: N/A Other Exercises: None Weather: Not Noted Comments: Angie and I spent the weekend at Jake's cabin on Useless Bay. The weather was pretty crummy, so we spent most of the time indoors. We did manage to squeeze in one game of beach golf despite the rain, cold, and dark. For me, the highlight of the trip was spotting a couple of unusual birds out in the lagoon. I saw a Greater Yellowlegs and a pair of Red-breasted Mergansers. I also saw the usual crowd of sandpipers (I couldn't tell you which kind), Great Blue Herons, and Red-winged Blackbirds. |
