Saturday, September 17th WARR 2005 Resting Pulse: Not Recorded Weight: Not Recorded Course: WARR 5k Distance: 5k (4 Miles with Warm-up) Time: 19:25 Other Exercises: None Weather: Clear, Cold Comments: I ran my big race of the year today. I was a little disappointed with my time, but I was running at 3500 feet, so I expected to finish slower than my best. I placed higher overall than I did last year, but I only managed to eke out 4th in my age group. My rival from Lufthansa wasn't there, so I didn't have a chance to lose to him. However, I beat a runner from British who placed ahead of me last year and won the 5k overall in 2003. He wasn't in my age group this year, but he will be next year. I'll have to keep my eye on him. Here's a shot of me leading runners from Delta and Cathay Pacific to the finish line. Did you notice my number? Sixty-nine dude! ![]() WARR: T-minus Zero Thursday, September 8th Resting Pulse: 48 bpm Weight: 167 lbs. Course: 4 x 400 (See Below) Distance: 5 Miles Total Time: Not Timed Other Exercises: None Weather: Partly Cloudy, 76° Comments: I ran a 1.5-mile warm-up, 4 x half-mile at 90 seconds hard and jog the rest, followed by a 1.5-mile cool-down. I felt pretty good, once I got warmed-up. I felt slow and sluggish until then. I watched the NFL opener tonight. I really need to start cutting back on how much sports I watch on TV. I'm starting to spend way too much time plopped in front of the boob tube. Course: None Distance: Zero Time: N/A Other Exercises: None Weather: N/A Comments: Today was a planned rest day—no workout. Angie and I had dinner at my parents' house tonight. My dad is leaving on Thursday to spend two months teaching English in the Peruvian rainforest, so it was something of a goodbye party. WARR: T-minus 11 Days Monday, September 5th Super Jock and Jill Race Resting Pulse: Not Recorded Weight: 165 lbs. Course: Super Jock and Jill 4-Plus Mile Distance: 4.2 Miles (7 Miles with Warm-up/Cool-Down) Time: 25:40 Other Exercises: None Weather: Overcast, Cool Comments: I felt good after a race for the first time in a long while today. More importantly, I improved on last year's time. I haven't bettered an old mark in more than a year. I hit the first mile in 5:56—and it felt easy—I went through the 5k point in 18:40 (my first sub-nineteen of 2005), and I passed the four-mile mark in 24:33. I slowed a bit in the final mile, but my legs were tired from two weeks of tough training.
