Thursday, February 23rd Resting Pulse: Not Recorded Weight: Not Recorded Course: None Distance: Zero Time: N/A Other Exercises: None Weather: N/A Comments: Another lost day. I decided it wasn't worth going for a run when I'm just going to miss the next three days because of travel. Also, when I noticed the rain/snow mix falling from the sky, my motivation to go outside plummeted. Wednesday, February 22nd Resting Pulse: 64 bpm Weight: 167 lbs. Course: None Distance: Zero Time: N/A Other Exercises: None Weather: N/A Comments: One day of training under my belt and I fall off the wagon. I didn't run today. I came home and collapsed on the bed. These damn Olympic broadcasts are keeping me up way too late. Since getting my iPod, I've been listening to a lot of audiofiction. One of the sites I especially like is Escape Pod. The story I listened to during my commute today was Even Vadsų Thaws. Now, I like it when fiction moves me, but this story did so in a completely negative fashion. It robbed me of my sense of hope for the future. (Not a good feeling when you have a baby on the way.) I think it may have contributed to my lack of motivation to run, but I'm probably just being melodramatic. Tuesday, February 21st Resting Pulse: 64 bpm Weight: 167 lbs. Course: Down by the River Distance: 4 Miles (approx.) Time: 36:00 Other Exercises: None Weather: Cloudy, 43° Comments: I ran four miles at an easy pace today. I felt terrible. Since it was my first training run in four weeks, I guess I should have expected the misery. My right shin felt sore during my workout, so I made sure to ice it well after I finished. Monday, February 6th Resting Pulse: Not Recorded Weight: 165 lbs. Course: None Distance: Zero Time: N/A Other Exercises: None Weather: N/A Comments: Planned rest day—no workout. I'm starting over from scratch (for about the thousandth time). I skipped the big 30k in Death Valley. I might skip the Carlsbad 5000 in April too. My conditioning is just too poor. I need to build up some base mileage and train myself to run when I can, where I can. Very soon I won't have the luxury of abundant free time. A little more detail about the pregnancy. It was planned, but it still happened quickly. Angie went of the pill in November and was pregnant by December. The baby is due September 2nd. Sunday, February 5th Superbowl Sunday Resting Pulse: Not Recorded Weight: Not Recorded Course: None Distance: Zero Time: N/A Other Exercises: None Weather: N/A Comments: I didn't run today. I was too wrapped up with watching the Superbowl. I'm not used to having an emotional investment in the game, but I did this time around. Alas, my beloved Seahawks lost. They were the victim of a few bad calls, but that doesn't change the fact that they failed to capitalize on several trips into the red zone. Oh well, they might get back again sometime before I die. I watched the game at Rich and Juli's house, and I took the opportunity to announce to everyone present that Angie is pregnant. In case you missed that: Angie is Pregnant! Don't believe me? Here's a picture: ![]() Thank you very much. I enjoyed my work. Saturday, February 4th Resting Pulse: Not Recorded Weight: Not Recorded Course: None Distance: Zero Time: N/A Other Exercises: None Weather: N/A Comments: Today's orienteering meet was cancelled due to high wind. So, no event to attend, no running for me. I felt a little off kilter, anyway, as I had a few too many beers last night. I'd gone over to my parents' house to feed the cats, only to find that the little bastards had shit all over the sunroom—the bastards being the cats, not my parents. I cleaned up the mess, but needed to wash the memory from my mind. I decided beer was the ideal solvent. It seemed to work. I guess there's a football game or something tomorrow. Since the local sports team is playing, I guess I'll watch it. Go 'Hawks! Friday, February 3rd Resting Pulse: Not Recorded Weight: Not Recorded Course: None Distance: Zero Time: N/A Other Exercises: None Weather: N/A Comments: I went on a delivery flight today. The best part was seeing the unblemished blue of a cloudless sky. I couldn't believe how much it lifted my spirits. The clouds have been so frequent and so low around here it feels like living in a cave. Alas, the plane descended back into the gloom all too soon. Thursday, February 2nd Resting Pulse: Not Recorded Weight: Not Recorded Course: None Distance: Zero Time: N/A Other Exercises: None Weather: N/A Comments: Didn't run today. Very tired. Going to bed early. Wednesday, February 1st Resting Pulse: Not Recorded Weight: Not Recorded Course: None Distance: Zero Time: N/A Other Exercises: None Weather: N/A Comments: I felt tired all day, mostly because I woke up at three a.m. when the raging wind tried to tear the roof off my house. (That's what it sounded like at least.) I drifted off a little, but didn't really get much sleep. I crashed pretty hard when I got home from work. I think I might be sick too. I had a spontaneous nosebleed at work, and my head feels like it's packed with marbles. Hooray for chronic sinitus! I didn't run today. I haven't run since my race on Saturday. I have to work late tomorrow, so I will probably skip my run. I have an orienteering event on Saturday, so I probably won't run on Friday because it might make me sore. I'll likely be too sore from orienteering to run on Sunday (not to mention that the Stupor Blow will consume most of the day). And this is a typical week. No wonder I'm in such lousy shape. |
