Comments: I decided to run the first installment of the Cougar Mountain Trail Series despite my poor physical condition. I think I did quite well. While I didn't run quickly, I ran smartly. I let myself get caught in a slow group on the single-track section, which kept me from running too fast and blowing out my legs. I therefore had enough strength left in my quads that I didn't struggle with traversing the Quarry Trail, a long, twisty downhill section. I power-walked up most of the final hill, but actually passed people who were running (it really was a long, steep climb). So, even though my time wasn't all that great, I don't think I could have gone any faster if I'd run with a different strategy. I can't wait to try this race again sometime when I'm in shape.
